tohatsu carbs

i have a 2000 50hp tohatsu, sometimes when you shift from neutral to forward and open it up, it bogs down and doesnt go and shuts off ,but only does it sometimes. i put new plugs in but it still does it. the guy i bought it from said the carbs need to have rebuild kits for them does this sound right?

does it only happen when your putting it in gear? what about if your just giving it gas in nuetral?

sounds like one of the floats might be stuck or a needle is clogged.

I would put sea foam in your gas can and then run deep creep through the carbs. Might help get the engine running better and can survive without a carp rebuild a little bit longer. Would rebuild the carbs when you can though.

I need to do my carbs but going to wait til the end of the season.

It's unlikely that it needs kits. It's very likely that the carbs need to be cleaned(taken apart and soaked in cleaner).

ya now that i think about when its in neutral and you give it gas it does it to. like the more gas you give it the faster it shuts off but put it back in neutral and it idles good. and also during this it smokes a little bit, and like it only happens sometimes.
but you would recommend running that stuff through the gas first then do a good soaking

Waste of money under the circumstances. Additives are fine as a preventive maintenance measure. Other than than that its not likely to do anything.

sounds like my race motor, my 50hp tohatsu does it aswell, but that is because of my carb setting .... no need for rebuilding and all that it is a simple setting .......

All you need to do is simply set your carbs back to 1 & 1/2 full turns outwards from soft stop and then lightly from there untill it is perfect ....
