Just got a used 2007 Tohatsu MFS6B 6hp 4stroke motor with an alternator. It is a dual coil system but both coils are shorted so I need a replacement. New prices are pretty high. There seem to be a lot of 9.8HP coils out there but are they the same? The part number for 6hp is 3AS-06023-0. The 9hp part number is 3AA-06023-0. There seem to be lots of coils out there with the 06023 number. Are they all the same? The 6hp, which I need, has center-to-center hole dimension of 60mm and overall length of about 82.5mm (~3-1/4"). Are there Nissan, Honda or Merc equivalents? Is a single coil version a viable option? I assume there was a good reason for Tohatsu to go to a 2 coil version. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
