Tohatsu u.k then sent me a replacment carb but i had the same problen. So tohatsu sent me starter kit which i fitted it now starts 1 or second time off the button.Inow wish to ajust the mixture screw i have a flat spot at half revs.Iturn in the mixture screw in the engine revs increase then runs roughf fair enoughf i turn the mixture screw the other way to get the right setting but the screw will turn all the way out with out any differance so i canot ajust the screw to ajust the mixture..Any ideas please.Thank you tom tom

Re: tohatsu again

That is the low speed mixture screw the high speed jet is fixed.Initial low speed setting is 1 1/4 turns out from gently bottomed on M30A,5/8 to 1 1/8 on M30A2, 1 to 1 1/2 on M30A3. .Then Low speed should be adjusted warm idling in gear to the smoothest setting then turn just slightly toward rich(out) ( not so much to change the operation.Main jet is # 175 on model M30A2,#165 -model M30A3,#155 on M30A3 after ser. 21030.
If it is really flooding you will have a lot of smoke when it finally fires up.Possibly with some stuttering as it clears out.Are you following starting instructions carefully?

Re: tohatsu again

Haven't seen the prices. But I wonder if something off ebay might work out.I don't think printed matter to the UK
would be too high. Some folks don't want to ship internationally but it is pretty simple with just a easy customs declaration to fill out.

TOHATSO AGAIN

TOHATSO AGAIN

Hi Spike Just got a manuall of e bay.Every now and again you come across a engine that even new is a bit of a bad one regardles of what the make is. The electric starter is great but cold it will not start on the pull cord as it should. Tohatso U.K has said try a hotter plug.I have been boating for 20 years with all kinds of engines .but it runs o.k apart from the pull start when cold it is just my cuirosity that has the better of me.as why this is.Regards TOM

Re: tohatsu again

Tom,

Have you thought about taking your new engine to an authorized dealer and letting their factory certified mechanic repair it under the factory warranty?

Hard starting at cold temperatures with theese engines is what you have to live with.
However, try this trick; (when the temperature drops)
stop the engine with the choke, yes the factory says you shouldn´t do it
but at least it starts on first pull

Ps. this is a phenomen I haven´t seen any dealer to crue
not even I o:) and yess Sir its cold outside here.

Re: tohatsu again

Unless there is something wrong with the engine it should start on the first pull. That's what it is designed to do and that is what they always do unless there is a problem. Take it back to the dealer and insist that they fix it. You have a warranty, but you have to use it. Otherwise you will continue to not get the full benefit of owning your new engine. If you are operating any engine at 30 F or below it is not unusual to take an extra pull or two to start.
