Would anyone be able to provide any performance data for this motor, or point to a web location where it is available.

If details of the boat (weight, prop etc) and weight carried etc are avaiable that would help even more.

I realise the data will vary for particular charistics of boat, weight carried, prop etc, however, any info (imperial or metric) would be appreciated?

Some info presently gained from one source is:

4.1kmh (2.6mph), 700rpm @ 0.7lt/h (0.2g/h)
40.9kmh (24.8mph), 4000rpm @ 12.8lt/h (3.4g/h)
58.9kmh (37.2mph), 5600rpm @ 27.6lt/h (7.3g/h)(WOT)

Someone said that fuel consumption @4000 and 5600rpm was more than that quoted above?

Data at 500 or 1000rpm intervals would be appreciated.

Kind regards
Trevor

Re: Tohatsu 90 TLDI performance data

Trevor, I have a 2003 90tldi on a 20' center console wooden skiff I built a few years ago. The hull weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 900lbs.

Speed at specific rpms are as follows:
1k=5mph
2k=7.5mph
3k=15.5mph
4k=25mph
5k=33mph
5.5k=36mph

At a steady 4k rpms, I recorded fuel usage of 6.75 mpg. On an average trip consisting of some headway speed and some 4k cruising, I recorded 7.73 mpg.

I have over slightly over 100 trouble free hrs on the engine now. I'm running a 13.75x15 Michingan aluminum prop.

http://groups.msn.com/bricog/questionablemanroofingtourney.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=770

The data that you are looking for can be asked for by contacting a Tohatsu distributer in your country or the one here in the U.S. To the best of my knowledge the information is not published in any public site.

Re: Tohatsu 90 TLDI performance data

Trevor

I've owned a TLDI 90 for over 12 months now. It's on a heavy plate aluminium cuddy cab 16 ft long. I'm running the std Tohatsu alloy prop.

The fuel economy of this motor is unbelievable, even better than I had hoped and even better than Tohatsu claim, which would have to be a first!

I’m averaging 3.3km/litre compared to 2.25km/litre for my previous motor on the same boat, which was a 70 Yamaha. To give an example, a recent all-day fishing trip from Cleveland across Moreton Bay, through the bar and out to the 35 fathom reefs and back covered 95km and I used just 27 litres of fuel. At trolling speed it seems to use virtually no fuel at all. My last tank of fuel on a mixed run around the Bay, averaged just 6.1 l/hr. My safe working range with 100 litres under the floor has gone from about 220km out to over 330km.

The motor starts instantly whether hot or cold, runs smoothly and there is no smoke.

Re: Tohatsu 90 TLDI performance data

I have this engine fitted to my pilot house 21' 1100kg all in back in the summer. Lovely engine.

Our fishing club went on a trip about 24 nm out, involving long drifts in a very rough seabed area. I used about 90litres of petrol with 3 on board. On comparison, a Suzuki 70 (6 months old) used the least about 60 litres on a 16' gullwing hull boat, a Warrior 165, a deep V hull with a Mariner 60 4 stroke used about 75 litres. I would have thought the milage is pretty similar since I had the heaviest boat with the most load and mine is a 90.

If you want here's a comparison test between various manufacturer, on 90 hp outboards.

http://www.bassandwalleyeboats.com/output.cfm?id=943183
