I need some help. I just bought a Renegade Skate with a 1994 Tohatsu 90, first off my tach lights up but the needle dosent move, and my trim gauge light lights up but it pins itself all the way up, no matter where the motor is trimmed. As far as I can tell its wired correctly, is there any way to test if the tach is good? Also, my boat is a tunnel hull, and when running wide open the motor was making a surging noise at WOT, but the speed was constant and it felt fine, just sounded kind of funny, but its my first boat so maybe its just me. And finally I was wondering what a good water temp gauge would be? Thanks for any input!

The wiring is all color coded so...you could have a cut in the wiring harness, or bad gauges. Also the trim sender arm could be broken off back on the stern brackets. Any brand of temp guage will be fine. You may have the engine up a little to high. That will cause it to surge or you may have a problem with the ignition system. You can get a noticable pulse if one of the coils is not working. You really need to have a dealer check out the ignition system.

Re: Tohatsu 90 ?'s

I forgot to mention that Im getting a weak signal out of the yellow wire going into the tach, when i crank the motor over, so i think im getting a good signal, tach must be broken, my boat has a jack plate, but its manual not hydrualic so i didnt really mess with the hieght out on the water, Ill lower it some before I go out next and see what it does
