Tohatsu 9.8 issue

I can't figure out the year of my outboard so I can get the right parts. The serial number is 010677xk. It's a 9.8 hp tohatsu 4 stroke. Any help would be great. I'm rebuilding the carb because gas was run through that was bad and gumbed it up. It had trouble starting and only started when throttle was high. It's wouldn't stay running while idle. Then it wouldn't start at all. I changed the plugs, oil, fuel filter and got new gas. Carb is next but I need to order the right gaskets and such.

Is your model a MFS 9.8 OB ? If so order parts for that version. Year is irrelevant, model is all.

Year of manufacture is irrelevant when servicing a Tohatsu outboard. Model/serial is everything. You have an MFS9.8A3, and that is what you need to know. Get a carb kit. Completely disassemble the carb (jets, emulsion tube, and EVERYTHING. Soak all non-rubber bits in real carb dip (from an auto parts house) for 4+ hours. Blow out every passage with generic carb spray. Install the new kit.
