tohatsu 9.8 four stroke

looking at buying 2004 9.8 four stroke,for use on a engine restricted lake in pa. but would like to take it to canada on yearly trip, we have to travel 26 miles to the portage caring alot of weight in 14' deep v boats. is this up to the task, also would like to get a second prop any tips would be great. one last thing engine price is 900.00 seller says it has low hours and all the maint. records seems like a good deal but i have little knowledge of the tohatsu brand thanks for any help.

You need to put your Tohatsu Qs in the Tohatsu section.
As far as buying any motor you want one with a good dealer(s) close by.
Best way to select a prop is to get the present prop size max rpm and speed.light and loaded.A tiny tach and gps will help.
Personally I'm not fond a 4 strokes.If your lake is not emission restricted.
A 2 stroke Evinrude or Johnson would probably be lighter and faster.
Not sure what 2 strokes if any are available.
If you want to get the best speed you'll need to setup carefully.
