Tohatsu 9.8 4 Stroke Running Rough

I have a 2005 Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke that just began running rough under load. The motor has approximately 20 hours on it. Starts and idles fine, but under load and up to full throttle it misses and runs rough. I have replaced the small fuel filter under the motor cover, and removed the carburetor and cleaned the jets as best I could with carburetor cleaner. Any other suggestions? The fuel supply is connected to my water/fuel separator filter that I use for my main powerplant. Thank you.

Since your engine engine is still in warranty you should take it into a local service center for them to determine the problem.

Thanks for the advice. None of the authorized Tohatsu service facilities are convenient to me. The closest one never answers the phone.

I pulled the carburetor apart and cleaned it up. Reassembled with a new fuel filter and it runs perfectly. Cleaned up the rest of the fuel system and all is well.

If you used the search feature by zip code in the dealer finder the default is for a search of "Sales and Service" outlets. Due to a rather odd bit of marketing, that would only bring up the Tohatsu labeled dealers. The alternate search parameter, "Service", brings up both Tohatsu and Nissan outlets.

Who say's that things don't change Public forums do have an impact. Big Brother sees all and made a change based on perceived need.
