I have a 2008 Tohatsu MFS8A3S which will start on 1 or 2 pulls if you pull out the choke but if you don't choke it it will start and only run for a few seconds then quit and will not restart even if choked also if you pump the bulb until firm it just floods the engine and runs over( is this a sign of a bad float or needle?) plugs are also wet. I even have tried starter fluid engine will not even try to restart. Engine has less than two hours total time. Any help appreciated.

Re: Tohatsu 8hp Flooding

Your carb is flooding. Probably a leaky float valve. Don't use ether-based start fluid. In the first place, it only make flooding worse to add more fuel. Second, it's explosive, and can crack a ring.

Thanks, I plan to pull the carb off today anything in particular I should look for? I have always used SeaFoam additive in the fuel.

Re: Tohatsu 8hp Flooding

Verify float height and condition. Check the needle tip. Might need a new needle. Possibly deposits in the valve seat of needle sides are adding friction, making it difficult to seat properly. Cleaning may help. Snake oil foam generally won't hurt, but doesn't help much either.

Thanks, I will let you know what I find.
