I'd whip out my Factory service manual as a guide and test the pulsers and exciters.

The mechanic is doing that now. He said oem parts are unavailable and aftermarket parts are unreliable.

What is the plan? Just buy aftermarket and hope for the best?

Where do I find an exciter, or pulser or cdi for a 1998 70 hp Tohatsu?

When OEM is NLA, as in this case, aftermarket is your only option.

I am beyond disappointed that a perfectly good 1998 motor is getting deep sixed due to a crummy part being unavailable. If this was a johnson evinrude I would be back in business by now.
