Tohatsu 70 hp

I have just purchased a 70 hp Tohatsu motor. I think it is a 89 or 90 model, dark blue, with a silver hood. It has pwr tilt, trim and seems to idle fine. I have put the motor on a 16 ft ski barge and was wondering if I need to change the prop? The prop is 17 right now. Also, how hard is it to hook a tach up? I hope someone has some info to help me. Are these motors pretty good? I think Nissan makes them. Thanks

Howdy, Oshi.<br /><br />Tohatsu engines have a very good reputation.<br /><br />The wiring diagram in your manual will show you what wire to connect to a tach. Once you have a tach hooked up you can check out your prop. The 17" sounds like a good bet to be right or close to right for the Ski Barge.<br /><br />"Nissan" engines are made by Tohatsu and marketed by Nissan to take advantage of Nissan's good reputation.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

Oshi,<br /><br />Go to this website. www.onlineoutboards.com. I believe they still have a link to Nissan/Tohatsu.<br /><br />Both labels are distributed in the US by Lombardini, Distributors out of Texas. They should be able to help you with tech. info, manuals, etc.
