Hi,

I recently changed the oil on my 2 year old Tohatsu 6hp 4 stroke. The draining was a pain as the motor is on the transom of my sailboat and the oil ends up on the ground despite my best efforts.

I followed the directions and put the proper amount of oil in according to the oil bottle, however, that was too much. And yes, I did let the old oil drain out.

Now the indications are that I overfilled the engine just slightly over the recommended amount on the stick. Is this going to be a problem? I know some auto engines will churn oil if overfilled. Same with a newer Tohatsu?

Thanks. Feel like a newbie...but it's such a mess I really don't want to drain any out unless needed!

Can you use a longish piece of rubber or plastic tube, stick it down the dipstick, suck on the other end (or use vacuum pump, squeeze bulb adapted to tube, etc) to pull some oil out (stopping before oil reaches you unless you need some innards lubed like I seem to)? Would get a little oil out without using the drain and making a mess. Blow oil out of tube into old jug and repeat procedure if need to remove more?

A turkey baster works well for this.
