Tohatsu 5hp same as Merc or Nissan???

I just got a slightly used 5 hp Tohatsu (4 stroke), and the seller told me it was identical to, and parts interchangable with, either a Nissan or a Merc...anyone know which one it is, as this will make servicing and getting parts easier...

Yes, and Yes. Verify your precise model and serial (MFS5A2, XXXXX for example). Tohatsu is the factory, and the Tohatsu motors are the "house brand". They also make all Nissan OB's, and all the current Mercury motors up to and including the 30, as well as the 2012 Evinrude up to 15. In addition, your motor can be upgraded to 6 hp, by swapping on the carb for a 6 hp model.

Thks Paul, that is good news - I didnt realize that Tohatsu was the factory for these other name brands as well..so does that mean i can order parts (eg. engine, prop, etc) from the other makes, for the same Hp and year engine as mine, and they will fit, or do I have to go to Tohatsu parts, much harder to get of course, esp in out-of-town areas.....

Same parts...they cost more under the Evinrude and Mercury label.
