shakedown cruise today. had a problem with my motor sputtering on take off, sounded like it was misfiring. ran fine after a few minutes at wot..shutdown, fish, same problem when i restarted. i had old fuel in the tank, i had treated it with stabil, but it was every bit of 3 + months old. got home and flushed tank, checked tank filter. small amount of trash in tank. will go ahead and take off filter at engine and clean tomorrow. then will run non ethanol nxt time with seafoam. any other ideas and advice are always welcome. the engine has a total of 116 hrs on it. i run a 3 gal tank . i was starting it up every 2 weeks over the winter. put almost 2 hrs on it today.top speed was the same as always at 5500 rpm. like i said any help is appreciated. Paul, u out there?

Could be a lot of things, but likely fuel. You might want to drain/clean the vapor separator -- might have something in it.

There is an aluminum casting bowl that houses the electric fuel feed pump. It has a small brass drain screw. That should be drained any time the boat will be laid up for a month or so. That is the vapor separator. Item 1 in the diagram. There is also the high pressure fuel filter, item 34 in the diagram: 002-21050-8_FIG06.JPG

If you're talking about the translucid cup (60) is usually hard to remove, E fuels widens and locks cup's upper threads against filter body. Remove fuel body, wrap a thick wooden sanding paper around cup, hold filter body tight, proceed to unscrew cup firmly while applying hand pressure against sanding paper wrap, this simple procedure does the trick most of the times..

If you can buy higher octane non E fuels, go for it. Fuel filter cups, o'rings, thin fuel pump diaphragms will benefit and last much loooonger.

You can just drain. Yes, #9. If you want to get a "flush" effect, remove the plug entirely until the fuel empties. Don't lose the small gasket #10.
