Hi to all on here, new to posting on here, hoping that someone will be able to recognise my problem with my 30hp 2-stroke Tohatsu (30A4, 2003, running in sea water only)

In 4 years the engine has not missed a beat, but around 6 weeks ago I was cruising for 10 mins or so at 3/4 throttle and the engine cut out suddenly... but started ok 30 seconds later... but would repeat this, I limped home on low revs.

I took a good look at the engine on land but noticed a metallic rumbling from the upper leg (above lower unit flange) I thought I hadn't notice before. I took the engine home and addressed all of the service activities I could manage. I replaced the fuel hose after reading some advice on here (thanks), changed plugs, used carb cleaner on the carb, changed the gear oil, inpected the impeller (was ok). It ran just fine after that in a tank, sounded really nice..

I took it out today and it seemed ok to start with I ran 7 miles to my fishing spot, seemed ok, perhaps a little unresponsive and slightly underpowered? On my return I could sense a slight change in pitch of engine while running at 3/4 throttle, then when flushing it seems that my mechanical rumbling noise is back:confused:. Has anyone out there any suggestions?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Do you run the gas out of the engine when you are done using it?

Not in 4 years or so, but have been advised to recently, so do it every time now..... Do you think that the carb could do with a strip down because it may be gummed up??

The rumbling may be a seperate issue, but your carbs are a mess by now.
