Hello

Have not seen one physically so far, would like to know, this model just has forward movement with no neutral position. Is this forward movement always connected/geared. Can someone briefly explain how this mechanism works since it's turned on. Is this a centrifugal type engine that connects gears once certain rpm's are reached and disconects itself when lower rpm's are reached ? What would be these connect/disconnect rpm's ?

What would be the Tohatsu code for a 2 strokes 5 HP long shaft version that comes with dual gas tanks, internal and 3.0 external plug tank.

Thanks

Yes....It's a direct drive. As to the 5...You need to contact your country's distributor and ask them to start helping you with these types of questions. If they will not help you then you should direct your questions directly to Japan.

Yes. TG is right on the mark.

The 3.5A series is always in gear -- no shift. So it starts in gear. It also has the impeller on the prop shaft, instead of the driveshaft. Less disassembly for impeller changes.

In the US, the Tohatsu lineup below 40 hp is 4-stroke only. So Japan is your best resource for the 2-strokes.

BTW, in the US MFS 4/5/6 four-stroke lineup, only the 4 hp comes with integral tank. It is possible to buy a 4, and then modify the 4 to a 5 hp, or to buy a 5 hp and then order the 4 hp fuel parts for it.

Got the idea clear, what don't undertsand is: once the engine is on in idle speed, how much will it push, would you need to shut engine off if don't want this small push, Or the push will depend entirely on what you need to be moved?

Depending on the load of the boat....Anywhere from two fingers to one finger to hold the boat at the dock.

Tohatsu 3.5 B2-2 strokes Inquiry

Hola TG

Nobody wants the 3.5 A2 model because it's always in forward position, so will import the 3.5 B2 model from Japan starting june, was wondering; what basic spare parts to purchase along with the engines would be required: was thinking in head gasket, impeller, plugs, would like to know when removing water pump assy, do gasket pump case & gasket guide plate breaks easily, or no, if removed properly will not break, as to include them in the basic spare parts list.

Keep in mind the these engines will be used just in wind emergencies during week ends. The idea is to maintain 0 stock parts for this model, so each user will buy his own engine and related spare parts recommended as this is a special import for J-24 users.

Sounds like you have a good idea.

I would suggest getting the WP kit, which includes gaskets and wear pieces (cup and plate) for a reasonable price. Also, [sometimes careless] people break the shift levers off. You'll want a new base gasket to change that part.

Not a bad idea to have a spare fuel valve -- comes with the in-the-tank strainer attached. They sometimes get gunked up on neglected motors. Some people also lose the filler cap, and sometimes overtighten it so much that they crack the tank.

You will want spare shear pins -- preferably the stainless ones -- maybe available locally, because if shifted into gear at higher than idle, the brass pins do tend to shear.

All in all, these beaters stand up to a lot of abuse.
