Tohatsu 3.5 – 2001 vs. Current Year Model

My local Boater's World has a Tohatsu 3.5 (short shaft, forward only) that I'm considering buying for powering an inflatable dinghy. Examining it, I noticed the data plate lists it as a 2001 model. I pointed this out, and asked if there would be any price break since it's over 3 years old, but they said no (the price is their normal price of $624.99), since it is still technically a new motor with full warranty.

So, my question is this... is there any reason why I would not want this motor (considering I'm getting a 2001 model for the same price that their selling the current models for)? Were there any changes made between 2001 and now that would make the 2004 model more desirable?

--Mike

Ya there is, if they won't go down on the price, then for the same money, if it is a display model, that motor has been touched by a ton of people, not much they could do to it, but still. Besides, it has been sitting for three years without being ran. I would rather get a new one out of the box. Just my opinion. Also, I would opt for the one with the shifter, it isn't that much more.

I bought a 2003, in 2003 from them with F/N shifting for the same price.

Good engine.

Funny thing is I don't need mine anymore...I upgraded to a 9.9

ed
