I have a 2004 Tohatsu 25hp, 4 stroke. It is very hard to start & will spin over forever. The only way I can get it to start is by opening throttle all the way,, try it , open throttle again, try it, etc,REPEATEDLY, while pumping the bulb. Bulb will lose some pressure while trying to start & after running.
After I finally get it started it will stall many times before running. ALSO, slow idle speed is rough , like a plug missing [ they are new], but once above mid- throttle, it runs very good & smooth. Top speed is fine. 23mph on a 16ft welded jonboat. Also, does just changing the carb-manifold gasket on this model, increase hp to 30 ?? PLEASE HELP !!

Has it ever started correctly.
Speaking generically it is normal for the bulb to get soft
as the motor uses fuel; it shouldn't collapse.
Check the fasteners to be sure carbs are tight and no hoses are loose or cracked.Try to observe the choke/primer to see if it is operating correctly.Observe the throttles to see if they appear to work smoothly.
Someone should be along with more specific info.

Yes, it used to start much better, but has always been very cold natured. I am in Florida, & I can run it one day for hours, the next morning it is still the same spin & spin & spin til it ever gets going. Hoses clamps, etc, are fine, but I will replace bulb. it never collapses, just is never good & tight.
Last year, I had to have it serviced due to poor running. I always keep good gas in it, but somewhere I got very poor gas with a lot of trash, filings, etc., in it. Dealer cleaned all 3 carbs & the top carb had a tremendous amount of trash in it. Started & ran fine afterwards. I added an extra small fuel filter in the line [ 2 filters now ] to help catch the trash. Ran & started fine til the last few outings.I ran Seafoam thry the tank, & made no difference. I am going to replace that bulb, double-check everything, drain & refill tank with new gas, & see what it does.I never understood why this has no choke, like I have been told.

There may still be trash in one or more of the carbs.
It must have some sort of primer to start it cold.
A primer button or choke? If it has an automatic choke it may be set wrong.
three carbs on a small motor sounds like too much maintenance to me.I think an Evinrude 2 stroke 50 is a single carb.

If it's a remote model, try raising/lowering the throttle handle on the control box about 5-6 times before trying to start it for the first time of the day. If it's a tiller model, twist the throttle grip to full speed and back to the start position 5-6 times first.

With the engines history it is almost certainly a fuel system issue. The engine has a three year warranty which covers parts and the labor associated with the parts. I would suggest you get it into an authorized dealer as the engine is not cold natured normally. If the problem is related to fuel contamination the dealer will charge you for that repair. Also, this model engine cannot be bumped up to a 30 without spending lots of money.

I will go ahead & replace the primer bulb, since I already have another one, & try it, then. I will take to a dealer if that doesn't solve the problem [ which will probably be the case.]
