Re: Tohatsu 25 to 30 hp difference
It is just a manifold gasket difference between the 25 and 30. No difference on the carb at all. Tohatsu/Nissan has never advertised to it's dealers what can be done to make one into another. IE They don't tell you what the differences are between one model and another that share a common CID. It's just something you either know or more likely...Don't. Propping is one of those things that people tend to over think based on advice from people who got advice from people who got advice from people who got advice from people...Get the point? Basically propping is trial by error with a huge slop factor as to what is "perfect". If you are happy with the performance you have...Stop and be happy. You can acheive modest results in performance by small changes in pitch. But, you usually gain in one area to lose in another. The only time you will see a hole shot increase and a top end increase is if your were propped less than "perfect" before. Stainless allows you to stay at the same pitch(and not lose hole shot) and increase top end...A little. Little being 1 to 3 mph. Dropping $225 to $400 for a 1 mph increase is dumb, but we sell a lot of props to people who feel differently.
A lot of people have different opnions than I do on propping...So, based on individual circumstances you might see a huge improvement, no improvement or totaly FUBAR your engine. Steelspike's advice is as accurate as you are going to find and I would urge you to play with the engine mounting before you start buying props.
The manual start 25-30 frame would require a alternator coil, rectifier, mounting harware and wiring harness. Available from any Nissan or Tohatsu dealer.
