Hello, I have a Tohatsu 1992 M70A, serial 360-11827, 2 cylinder with remote controls that is not producing spark on either cylinder. I checked the compression and both cylinders are at 140#. I checked the continuity on the key switch, wire harness wires and kill switch with all showing OK. I have a SELOC manual and it looks like it says that testing the coil cannot be done due to the design of the combined CD Unit/Ignition. How can I test the CD to see if it is the problem? How should the Exciter/Charge coil be tested to see if it is a problem? What does the Electronic Safety Governor (ESG) do and how should it be tested? Are there any other things that I should check that would be causing the no spark? Thanks for any help with this!

On this one, need a Tohatsu Service Manual to troubleshoot electrically all related electrical parts that fires that engine. Engine should have a coil under flywheel that feeds energy to the CD/Ignition unit. If the coil it's found ok, the issue is in the CD/Ignition package.

Hello Sea Rider! Thank you for the information. Where can I get a Service Manual for that older type outboard?

Batfish,

Check with Paul (Pvanv), or PM him, probably can get one for you. BTW, being an oldie expect some probable NLA parts. Good luck bringing back to life that horse...
