Tohatsu 18HP 2000 runs only with choke on

Hi All,
After going over a wave my tohatsu 18hp 2001 model outboard will only run with the choke 3/4 of the way on! Any ideas please fuel filter looks ok but is this the problem? Any ideas? tks

update engine is 2000 M18E2. Have changed fuel tank and fuel lines and bypassed fuel filter still same problem. Looks like something in carby?

Go through that carb. Do a proper soaking, not just a spray. If filter is a year old, just change it. If you have E10 gas, run a water-separating filter. And make SURE you are running FRESH fuel.

You properly need a good carb rebuild and a new fuel pump good luck

Thanks Guys,
should I check the fuel pump diaphragm for damage and see if a check valve has come loose as doesn't look to complicated to do that. Or is it more likely that some foreign body has partially blocked a carby jet?

Could be either problem, likely crud in the carb. The carb has the pump attached, so in disassembling it, you can see the pump. See TG's http://www.internetoutboards.com/PartsCatalogMenu.htm for a parts catalog.
