I know the 115 tldi will be out shortly. Is Tohatsu also converting the 140 hp to TLDI?

Thanks

Yes, but they are unsure if they want to make it a 125, 130 or 135 hp. The DFI system robs just enough power off the 140 to keep it from being a 140. :)

Speaking of the 115....Hey Elvin, are they delivering the 115 TLDI's yet? Have you had a chance to play with one? Any feedback on it or comments so far??

As always, thanks!

Haven't posted much lately...just lurking...

They are not out yet. We are hoping to have some in at the begining of March. If we do, the first one goes on the back of my 23' Bennington.

Re: Tohatsu 135 TLDI

I asked the same question of Tohatsu America. Kurt's response was the 115 will be out in May, and the larger motor won't be ready for another year because they can't use the 115 block. Bore and stroke are being increased to get more power.

Does anyone really think it will only take them one year to do this when the 115 has been ib the rumor mill for almost 2 years and keeps getting pushed back? The 115's are already available overseas, so why not here in the USA?

Boatbuilder friends I know are questioning their financial stability, intentions, and whether they're having severe problems with the motor with all these delays.

Re: Tohatsu 135 TLDI

The 115 TLDI has been pushed back to the end of April or beginning of May.

It is unknown as to what Tohatsu Japan will decide as far as what the next size will be above the 115. It might be a 125, 130 or 135...Or they may very well do something with the block and get 140 hp out of it. They do not rush into anything. That's why their engines do not have recalls...Unlike every other manufacturer.

The 115 is not available anywhere except for Japan and the two engines that are in the Dallas warehouse...And they will not let anyone have those two. Tohatsu has a wide window from when they say they are developing a product to when it actually becomes available for sale. They are at production capacity with their current models and new model introductions have always taken a back seat with them. At least for the last 22 years that I have been involved with them. I believe that they will be available as soon Tohatsu brings the new plant up to speed. That is long overdue.

I know a lot of boatbuilders too. Some are as dumb as a tree stump. Some are pretty smart. But none are questioning anything about Tohatsu's "financial stability, intentions, and whether they're having severe problems with the motor with all these delays." There are three outboard manufacturer's that actually make money. Yamaha, Mercury and Tohatsu. All three are stable,( Some of the people at Mercury are a little unstable). Intentions change with the wind, like everything else in life. And as I said above, Tohatsu does not release an engine for production unless every single thing is proven to function as designed. If that means they hold up production while they re-think a $1.00 new widget...So much the better for their customers. I only wish that other manufacturers had the same policy.

Re: Tohatsu 135 TLDI

I cant wait......
Im retiring my 1991 OMC 70 HP off of my welded Alum SAFE boat center console hull and while having looked briefly at an older, used 115 Tohatsu that failed a compression test,Im going to have to plop my 2003 Yamaha 115 2 stroke(5 hrs use!) gas hog onto it ,rather than wait for the Tohatsu people to come thru.....
Some engine builders seem to be content with a huge market share of small engines while others buy the boat builders out ,and then target the market that will support that "other" pc. of pie.
My boat builder friends all have had Tohatsu in their offerings at one time, but their product line hasnt grown with them and were dropped.Only the one small boat builder I know has stuck with them until today.
TM
