Today, France is a little less French. A good thing!

The French, like it or not, (and even though both sides of my family are of French heritage, I do not like them, from Petain to De Gaulle and beyond) are influencial on the world stage.

They have finally put a small but positive touch on issues in Iraq. Seems with their new leader they are rising above their previous, priggish, self interests in opposing the US's entry into Iraq and putting one toe over the line to show some solidarity.

Again, as I posted about John Howard, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and now Sarkozy; when decent, smart people get access to the whole story they risk their political futures by backing the US led effort in Iraq and against terror . . . They are definitely not looking out for their own skin. They know something all the detractors don't, or refuse to acknowledge. That's the only logical answer ;)

I would say that France is more French than ever.
Just a few weeks ago the French helped in the release of nurses from Lybia, while secretly signing arms agreements with them and now Sarkozy shows up in Baghdad.
It does not show support for US policy in Iraq. It shows that Sarkozy visits the places where his personal friends died and (cynical me) it shows that the French sense that soon the Iraqis will try to send the USA on its way and the French will be there waiting in the wings, to sell arms and whatever else to the highest bidder.

Well rolmops, all you say would certainly not be out of character. I guess that I am just hoping that the better side of the French wins out. Maybe once again I am behind the eight ball in thinking there is a better side.

I also agree with rolmops. When the Shah was over thrown in Iran, the French were willing to sell arms to the new regime. Iran no longer was able to buys parts for their American supplied military equipment bought it from France. Beware of the French bearing gifts.

I sure hope yer wrong but I suspect yer right. This leader is better then the Crooks prior to him, even if yer right about the French's back stabbin' nature. Respectfully, JR

I'll say that he is by far much slicker than Chirac, when it comes to saying one thing and doing something else.

I like the French as much as Bondo's love of Bayliners. :D

I bet your wrong. Sarkozy has been a friend to us form the start. Do you think he'd sell arms or parts to Iran now that Iraq is going our way?

Digging up old threads for political reasons is a no-no. And, you KNOW IT.
Consider that a warning, don't do it again.
