I have posted a few other questions regarding this motor (1988 80HP 3cyilnder SN B373411) and have received some great help. I was able to fix the streeing and I am working on replacing the impeller.

I am comfortable doing repairs but I don't have a ton of time to tinker due to having two small kids. Repairs or specific items I am willing to tackle but since I need to research each repair and I am fairly new at boating...I was planning to bring the boat to a shop to have them go through it as I would think they would be able to indentify issue more easily than me. I also wanted a full tune up which they said includes plugs, lower unit flush, adjusting carbs, checking compression, etc.

I have since talked to a shop closer to me and they said they don't want to touch any tune-ups on an older motor b/c often times then can be a lot of work and I may not see noticeable improvements in performance. He suggested that unless I have an issue and it seems to be running well...don't mess with it. Change the impeller and plugs and move on.

I haven't run it in two years - hope to run it on a muffler this wekend - but it ran pretty well when I did take it out.

I'm looking for some opinions on this? Don't mess with it or can a good mechanic help me out here? Quoted price was $350 plus parts but inlcudes the plugs.

If you think I should save my money - are there a few key things I could check myself keeping in mind I can spend a ton of time on it? Again - I'm not afraid to learn but just have to pick my battles.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!
