I am buying a 2001 campion (bought new in 2002) with a 2002 suzuki outboard with 40 hours on it. I spoke to suzuki and the dealership that surviced the engine, and the warentee will transfer and the dealer indicated that it was up on all its services and never had any problems... SO I feel good about the engine.

I was not going to get a survey done, but I called campion and the warentte is not transferable on the boat itself. SO I have schedueld a survey on the boat. But I am woundering that if it is really necessary. THe boat is only one year old and only has 40 hours on it. what do you think... survey or not???? Thanks DOug

I wouldn't on something that new. Look around the transom and the rear of the hull, pay special attention to anything that goes through the hull (bolts, bilge pump discharge, cables etc.). Make an offer subject to sea trial and when you're out get the owner to use everything. You'll know if it's good at the end of your spin. Happy shopping.

What can I say? I bought mine sight unseen off of e-bay. One picture was posted and I talked to the owner for two minuets on the phone. I was very lucky it didn't turn out to be a piece of poop. Just what he said it was what I picked it up four states away. What a roll of the dice that was. My point is some people still tell the truth but I would watch my back anyway.

Agree with Magster that it's pretty hard to find faults with a one year old boat that wouldn't be pretty obvious. I think I'd go with my feelings on this one and if a survey made me feel better, I'd have one done. The cost is not much when you consider the price of the boat.

think it would be a waste of money. like the others said, if you take a good, hard look at it and did a sea trial, you probably know as much as a survey would find. good luck and enjoy the new boat-

Thanks for all the information.... I heard a vibration when acceleration and it has me a bit nerved up.... it could have been that the bimi top was up, and there was some gear in the back of the boat.... did not hear it at full speed.... so I may have it done for piece of mind

Hi learo
Waste of money? Waste of time? Boat only a year old. I wonder, how does the insurance co. feel about this? Will your premiums be a little higher? How about the lender? After all it's their boat. How old does something have to be before it can be damaged? I'm sure this is a nice rig, probably nothing wrong. It only costs a couple hundred bucks, you'll sleep well, and enjoy your boat more. It pays to be prudent.
Tell them other guys to come and see me I got some boats to sell ffast. Cheep.

Good point.... I am paying cash for it, so I think that is all the more reason to have the survey done. I am a worry wart, so if anything it will help me sleep better, and my wife will not have to hear me what if and what if the baot to death...

Doug
