I say THANK YOU to the men that freely gave their time and knowledge to help me with this engine overhaul.
I now have 8 hours on my 1985 50hp. 4cyl. overhaul and I noticed some changes, on the start up the idle was
1200 rpm up from 800 rpm before the overhaul. I have only set the timing and primary pickup actuator plate.
After 6 hours I went to WOT and the rpm was up fron 53 or 5400 to 5900 and 6000, is this kind of change in
rpm normal for an overhauled engine? When it got to 6000 rpm I cut it back to 4000 rpm and run about 1/2
mile then backed off to idle back to the ramps, this was done for 2 hours. Compression is 140 on all cylinders
with carbs. closed. I have to get back in the water to set the max. timing and the secondary pickup adjustment.
I feel the engine has a lot more power, the boat really jumps up on plane. One more thing should I get a prop.
with more pitch or keep the one on the engine and just keep the rpm under 5500? , and when should I go back
to 50 to 1 fuel? .........HAS I WISH I KNEW THE RIGHT WORDS, JUST TO SAY THANK YOU SEEMS
SO INADEQUATE
