To rebuild or not to rebuild?

I recently inherited a 2004 115hp Mercury which has two bad cylinders. My question to the forum is how much work is involved with rebuilding this engine, and approximately how much I would have to invest in parts. When the previous owner checked with local repair shops, no one wanted to touch it....thus the owner bought a new engine (and boat) and I got the old engine for free. So far I have nothing invested in it. This engine happens to be almost identical to my 1994 115hp Mercury, so my other option is to keep it as a parts engine.

What are your thoughts?

Re: To rebuild or not to rebuild?

Depends on how bad the cylinders are damaged, if it needs sleeves,if crank is damaged.etc,etc. The only way to know is to disassemble it.
