To Rebuild or Not Rebuild??

After many hours catching small mouth and walleyes on Lake Erie, my old 72 - 40hp Merc seems to have a callapsed lung. The compression in one cyl. is 115PSI and the other is 65!! Should an old lawn mower jockey like me attempt to rebuild this engine or attempt to secure a used replacement? The local marina wants $1200 to revive her.

Re: To Rebuild or Not Rebuild??

Hi JimmyC. My opinion is to take your motor, Thank it with the highest honors, give it a kiss for all the years of dependable service it has given you, and lay it to rest. Save the time and sometimes frustration of rebuilding it at home, and invest in a new or newer motor. That would be my choice.
