To flush or not to...

I use my Waverunner in fresh water only. Is it necessary to flush the engine after each use or at least periodically? All I have been doing is running it for a few seconds after it has been taken out of the water.

Re: To flush or not to...

Thats a good question. I was wondering that myself. I just bought my first jet ski a few months ago and it has a flush kit on it but since I ride it in fresh water only and run the engine a few seconds after each use I havent had any problems but I wonder if I should still flush it. Someone who knows about this type of stuff please chime in.

all I used to run was fresh water before moving down here and I always flushed the ski motors. even running fresh water you pick up stuff in your water and also sand if you run in anything shallow like starting or stop near a beach or sand bar. The extra 5 or 10 minutes will be well worth your time if you plan on keeping the ski for the long run

fresh water isn't as critical in reguard to flushing but you can have trash and alge in your system a good trick is to periodically flush out the system with soap ,, squirt some common dish soap in the flush hose and run the ski long enough to view when the soap stops exiting the exhaust, this will usually be only a couple minutes, doing this also helps reduce grunge buildup in the exhaust system like oil sludge.
