Yikes! Being froze-in is only a portion of their problem. Wow.

Re: To early to go fishing

I just had to look at this comment with such a title. First I was going to say it is never too early to go fishing...:faint2: BUT after seeing the pictures I guess it could be too early. They are going to need a chipper/shredder and some sledge hammers as well to get that out... I guess it USED to be a good outboard...

Meh. Can't hurt that hull. The OB could be fine, so far, unless the LU froze and cracked, which isn't certain since it's in the water. But if the transom is below water and it rolls when it thaws, then he could have a problem.

Not saying it's a good idea to do that, but he has the right boat and motor for it. Worst case he loses a $400 boat with a $350 motor.

I always wonder when I see pictures like this if the guys that own them got in a wreck or died someway, and there they sit

Take a fuel tank along, plug it in and fire it up! Leave it at a moderate idle, if it's P'ing, no P turn it off. The leg should warm enough to melt the motor free a little bit.

Bust some of the ice out inside the boat and pitch it out. As the ice melts around the boat it should stay floating.

I'd tie a few more lines tight to the dock just in case it doesn't stay afloat, hopefully tight lines will keep the motor above water.

That's about the only valid excuse for doing something like that; especially to the outboard.

Look closer. He's sitting there, cold beer at hand, talking to the guy at the end of the railing, while he waits for the bigger boat tied next to him to shove off.

Cold beer on bench seat in 2nd pic. Man at rail evidenced by footprints in the white stuff, 1st pic. Larger boat also evidenced by impression in the white stuff, 1st pic. More evidence he is there, no white stuff where he is sitting, both pics.
