to cover or not

I cannot decide whether I should be covering my boat or not. It's a 1969 17' runabout and I am down here in humid South Florida. My thoughts are like this:

Cover:
(Yes) - The boat will rot and mold in this humid environment

(No) - The boat will have gelcoat exposed to UV, which apparently doesn't matter because gelcoat has been exposed to UV for 35 years so far with no drama.

Am I missing something here? It feels like I shouldn't cover it and it looks like most people down here don't, except for bass boats, seems like they are all covered. I just want to do The Right Thing for the old Tarpon.

Thanks,
E

Try and figure out a way to cover it but not encapsulize it. In otherwords, let air circulate.

Build a PVC framework and bungie it down so the wind dont blow it away. Its what I do and it keeps the leaves, rain, and the sun off.

I run my winch strap up and back over the boat and secure it to the ski pole. I had a heavy tarp made to size with good strong eyelets. With the tarp over the winch strap it acts like a tent, keeps the sun off, the rain out and allows good ventilation.
