i recently ran into a seemingly great buy on a boat without an ingine. it is an older center console that i would like to rebuild and put my evinrude on it. anyway, the boat has a large (3ft. X 2 ft.) soft spot, right behind the driver seat. the hull is fine as well as the transom. i was thinking the best way to fix this would be to cut out the spot, replace it with new marine ply wood, and fiberglass it back in. Is it this simple or is there much more to it, or an easier way. any info will help me here since i don't want to buy something i cant fix. Also how much would i be loooking at putting into this project? thank you for your help!

Yes, there is more to it than that. After you cut the soft spot you will realize that boats rot from the bottom up. It could be that it was just a low spot on the deck that held puddled water but its very doubtful. Most likely you will find rotted stringers along with that deck.

^^^^yeah what he said. Only buy it if you don't mind a complete rebuild.

If it's cheap enough, and you need a project, then go for it. But as the man said -- expect to do a lot more than just replace a piece of plywood. Some people just enjoy rebuilding boats , but it can be a JOB. If you want to learn, the best way is to DO.
