TLDI40 what is this rod?

Just picked up my motor from the dealer after they did my 50 hour service.
After trimming my motor back down I heard a clicking noise so opened up the top cowel and noticed that a rod was loose so I connected it back to the only logical spot I could see which I have attached in the photo.

Can anyone tell me what this rod is attached to (what does it do) and should I have re-connected it? I don't really want to drive another 2 hours back to where I serviced it just to have them re-attach it like i have?

Thanks

It may be the link rod to the oil pump. Why not call the dealer and ask them? I don't know these motors, but if it is the rod to the oil pump, it seems like it is important to be connected.

Yes. Oil Pump Link Rod. And you connected it to the correct spot. I would call the dealer to see if they adjusted it (it's threaded on the other end). If so, they may have neglected to reinsert it correctly. Never seen one pop out, so it may have been left loose inside the cowling. Either way, definitely let the dealer know.

Re: TLDI40 what is this rod?

I just picked up a 2010 40 TLDI motor and part of the initial 30 minute break in is to disconnect this oil pump linkage so you get max oil going to your engine at idle and lower rpms. My understanding is as you increase the throttle you also increase the oil. By disconnecting this linkage you get get max oil all the time. Also if your motor has been stored for a long period of time you should also do this again. I just got it and have 2 1/2 hours on it and so far so good. I am very happy with this little motor.
