Hi, Saw a couple of threads on this but did not want to re-open. I have a ~2009 MD-50B and just got a 3Z5-72640-1 tach (TLDI with LEDs) just to pull the code that the engine is now reporting.

I've found the "white" bulleted wire toward the bottom of my engine (although it looks like it heads off to the tiller loom?!). This is not a permanent hookup (I have a Zapcat/Thunderduck inflatable with no place to mount anything!) so I am not hooking up the 3 LEDs nor did I get the extension/remote mounting 2-wire loom. Now I understand that I also have to provide +12VDC to the instrument and am guessing that is via the red wire that goes through the same grommet as the yellow/white is that correct? The black and blue leads are probably for illumination I am guessing. So that leaves white male bullet and yellow female bullet.

So checking here if I am correct:
white to white in engine
yellow to engine gnd
red to +12VDC (post ignition switch)

I am hoping its not something bad. The engine has 30hrs at most but has been sitting for a while. New battery (24 size) and I tried the TPS reset a few times - even with jumping my trucks battery to see if that was the issue. After clearing the code it returned after a second or two. Engine starts and runs just fine though.

Your tach wiring schematic is correct. You need a 1000-amp battery. I'm not aware of any group-24 marine start battery that hefty. What codes are you getting?

Well this is strange. I wired up the tach today pulled the code for hours (25-34hrs seems right) and then proceeded to the fault code. There was none! I then proceeded the start the engine and the 3 lights were no longer flashing. I guess that is a good thing. I had deleted the code last time but it came back after 5 seconds of running it so I guess I'll never know. It might've been the old fuel has finally cleared or something.

Thanks for confirming the wiring though! It would be nice to mount this tach someplace but it is pretty large and all I have is a transom and inflatable sponsons... My little lawnmower tach/hour meter is no good after 3800rpm.
