Try resetting the TPS and ECU, this makes a difference to how these things run. As well there is another proceedure for clearing the computor code, but that doesn't make any differnce to how the motors run.

To reset the TPS and ECU

1) set the key switch to the on position, disconnect the stop lock switch within one second after the beep stops sounding
2) wait about 5-10 seconds, pull the red knob on the stop switch for about 0.5 seconds, then release the switch.
3) wait another 5 to 10 seconds, again pull the red knob on the stop switch, then release the switch.
4)The sounding of 3 short beeps about five seconds after the knob is released indicates a successful reset of the ECU and TPS, if no beep sounds start over.

The factory has a bunch of conditions they recognize that create conditions where this needs to be done, however, the TLDI brain box is prone to regular fits, not to do with battery or any other apparent reason. Most of the time the condition goes away, but anybody with one of these engines needs to practice the above proceedure, don't pay a dealer to do it.

Cheers.

Your most likely source for the TPS sensor requiring a re-set is a marginal battery and/or resistance in the battery cables. The factory spec for battery size does not take into account normal degradation of the battery and the eventual build up of resistance in the cables themselves. When you next replace your battery go with a minimum of a 1000 CCA and keep your connections clean.

i charged the battery and cleaned the cables but it still flashed all day. i have a pretty large deep cycle battery so i think im gonna try resetting the ECU and see if that helps. the boat runs perfect so i dont think it is a serious problem.

When you are going through this proceedure think about what you are doing, The key is on, which activates the circuits in the ECU. When you take the stop lock switch off, this de activates the circuits in the ECU. Pulling that stop switch out and letting it go back etc. for given lengths of time, or following a sequence, or pushing the key in for a given length to time for other tests is about the same as poking your T3 hand held computer with a stick.

I just copied the service manual steps out for you, because I found I had to carry the parts and service manual around with me to keep my motors going, but I don't have the manual with me right now, so if you happen to find a site on the internet that has all the tests for the TLDI let us all know.

Good luck. Cheers.

Thanks a ton lots of boats and tohatsu guru. Reset the PCM and the christmas tree went away. i gotta get a manual for this thing. i was going to get one off a guy on ebay but he didnt know what year it was for. DOes it make a difference with the TLDI. Is the book specifically for A or B or are they for both?

Oh, and i guess poking it with a stick is better than beating it with a hamer. The latter never works out as good as you expect.

The A and B models have separate manuals as there were 7 or 8 changes in the engine system design. Get the one for your model or the electrical test procedures will be useless.
