Went to enjoy a day of fishing this weekend, started up the engine and everyhting was fine till i went to get on plane. Enging maxed out at about 2500 rpm. It ran smooth but wouldnt get above 2500. I stopped and did the only thing i knew to do, reset the TPS/ECM with the safety kill switch. restarted the boat and then it would only idle no matter where the throlttle was. I am waiting on my service manual to come in but while i am waiting is there anyhting i can check. Im thinking it is a TPS issue, mechanically everything is working correctly with the linkages.

Im thinking TPS because of the complete loss of throttle control after the reset. Please stop me if im wrong. Is there another procedure to reset the TPS beside turn key on, pull kill switch, wait 5 seconds pull switch again, wait 5 seconds pull switch and then wait for the beeps.

well Vinny, if you would open your eyes and look in your owners manual you would see the answer to your question. You should wait till the service manual arrives so you can see what engine fault is causing your engine to freak out and try to avoid damaging itself. Oh and since pushing your key in causes your rpms to rise you can tell for sure its not the tps, that and the fact that it starts and runs perfect.

Hey thanks for the help everyone. I will post my findings when the service manual gets here.

ok, i got my shop manual. it has 2 codes

1. tps1
2. tps2

How accurate is the PCM on this engine. Is it usual for the fault to be with both TPS's on this engine? The part is about $250 so im just covering my bases before i order and it be something simple i overlooked.
