Tire wear/wheel alignment

I have a '98 Mountaineer with about 135K miles that I still bring to the dealer for service. The front tires are near end of life and the dealer pointed that out and said that it also needs a wheel alignment. I got normal life out of these tires and the tread wear is uniform, why would an alignment be necessary?

Thanks,
Nick

I always recommend an alignment check everytime you purchase new rubber. Not only will they do an alignment, they will shake down the front end and see if any problems exist, and look for any problems that maybe coming.

It's certainly possible that you don't need an alignment, especially if your tires wore evenly and lasted as long as you expected.
But it takes little to check the alignment that may cost a little bit- not as much as the alignment itself.
For new tires, I'd at least get it checked.
