I have a Xpress 1756 aluminum boat, and I have a tire question. The trailer/boat/motor and everything included are about 1800#. I am running Titan ST radial tires in 165/80/13. I had a tread seperation on the way to the lake yesterday. I was wondering what could have been the problem. I had SEVERAL thousand miles on the tires and this is the first problem I have ever had. I am running 45# of tire pressure.

Also we dropped the tire when we were changing it and dented in the edge of the rim......can this be fixed?????

thanks for any ideas
longshot

Re: tire & trailer?

Running 45# in a tire whose load rating is probably specified at 50# means you are probably at or very near the maximum capacity of the tires. Overweight and underinflation causes heat build up and eventual tire failure. Make sure you know exactly how much the rig weighs then check the sidewall of the tire for max inflation pressure and max load capacity. If the tires are under that capacity you need to step it up. Remember, the tires carry the weight of the trailer too so you need to at that weight.

yes the rim can be pounded back into shape...probably the same guy who fixes your tire can do it.

It's not one of those fancy aluminimium wheels, is it? Some a those need special handling.

Sounds like your running at close to the maximum for a single axle trailer, I would be checking the total weight of your rig 'fully loaded' at your local weigh bridge, I'm guessing your under estimating the total by at least a couple of hundred pounds. Heat and speed are 2 killers of tires but balanced is just as important on a trailer as it is on your car; out of balance will destroy them very quickly.
Remember, buy the best you can afford not the cheapest you can find! And make sure they are rated well within your total weight. Good luck, enjoy your boat.
