Ok, light weight boat , single axle trailer with 4.80 X 8" tires. Sidewall rated cold pressure is 60# max. Been advised to run at max. inflation(#60) but am finding that the center tread wears down considerably faster that the edges. Any ideas on this topic??? Lower pressure? Does this increase heat and therefore possible blow out?
???

If the tire centers are wearing, then you CAN REDUCE tire pressure. I would probably only reduce 5 or 10 lbs and watch for any sidewall buldge.
Heat buildup is caused by sidewall flex caused by under inflation.

Also, if you air down too far, the edges will start to wear more than centers. A good even wear should indicate a good psi for you. Problem is, by the time you figure it out, you need new tires. Then, you start all over. ;)

BL...

look in the mirror when towing on a wet road and you can tell . dark strip in the center, too much air, dark strips in the edges, not enough air.
