HELLO TO ALL AND THANKS IN ADVANCE. I just bought a boat 500 miles away and need to change the tires on the trailer for the trip. The boat is a 23 foot grady white 5000 pounds, it is sitting on a older easy loader tandem axel trailer, with 4 f75 or 85 16.5 6 or 10 ply load range e tires . Can I replace them with a 15 inch tire and rim load range c since it would be less costly and the trailer would not be used during the year only 3 miles 2 times a year. The tires look good with no dry rot but have not moved in 3 years and would have a flat spot in then There is no G.V.W. numbers on the trailer and only a bill of sale for the trailer .the trailer is all steel 5 inch frame and must be rated for 6 to 7 thousands pounds with those 16 .5 tires on it .Any suggestion would be of great help Thanks JD

Re: Tire capicty/load range

a 15 in c can be rated from Max. Capacity: 1820 lbs. to 2150 each

which is not even close to the 16.5 tires rateing you would be pretty over loaded just sitting in the driveway

a 16.5 E tire is around Max. Capacity:3200 to 3520 lbs. each depending on the rim :D

And then how many lugs do you have

15 in rims can be 5 or 6 lug the highest rated 16.5 comes on and 8 lug rim and dont forget the bolt circle

tommays

tommays,

With a tandem axle trailer wouldn't that give you a total capacity of about 8,000#?

That question aside, it doesn't seem like such a good idea to try to save money like this. Stay with what you have. My $.02

Ya BUT thats why you read about so many tire blowouts on tandem trailers your going from a BIG saftey margin with the E tire to just enough to get the job done with the C tire

tommays

It's a matter of Bolt Circles,+ #s of Lugs,.........
As Tommays has already stated.........

With the 8 bolt pattern,....... You're limited to 16",+ 16.5" wheels........

That Used to be All the 3/4 ton Fords,..... Most of the Dodges,+ None of the Chevys,... Their Inner hole is Too Small for Most trailer hubs.......

I hear that may not be True, For trucks built since the turn of the Century............
