I was out on my buddy's boat this weekend with his little Alumicraft 12 footer. He's got an early 80's 9.9 evinrude that he just bought that runs great with one exception. At low speeds, it skips or cuts out every once in awhile. It's not stranded us, and it doesn't happen very often.A little annoying, but otherwise the thing runs fine.I'm thinking bad gas. It gets tuned yearly by "the pros".Any opinions? I can't believe how good it moves that little boat!

Sometimes if the "Lean/Rich" adjustment is in the lean direction to far, they will do this. Turn it a 1/4 turn to the "Rich" side and see if that helps a little.

geekomatic,
usually bad gas just wont burn in an engine.sounds like the motor is loading up,or has spark issues.

I know you are using that 'the pros' term gently. There are a lot of pro's here giving us advice, and I personaly thank them all.

DHP

DHPMARINE:
As do I graciously thank everyone.Could not have gotten this far without all the help.Yes,I used the term lightly, referring only to a certain "expert" in my area. They couldn't read this if they wanted to, so I probably should not have even said it.
Oddly enough, my buddy just happened to be dinking around with the rich/lean mixture as we were ripping the river in search of the elusive Brown Trout.I'll pass along the advise.
By the way-Total tally for the day:
Me- 7 nice brownies caught on white rooster tails.
My buddie - ZERO. Too busy worrying about his new purchase.

Yup, mine has been doing the same thing. I haven't had the chance for another test run, but I suspect that lean/rich mixture that OBJ has pointed out is causing the problem.

Basically just a burp or hiccup at idle, sometimes causing it to almost stall. Starts right back up again though.

I had a similar problem on an evinrude 6hp, It turned out to be a faulty fuel line fitting.
