I'm brand new to this forum, and am quite happy I found it. There's a lot of great information here!
I replaced the complete distributor on my 1975 65HP 3 cylinder 2 stroke Mercury. It's a blue label 650 with Thunderbolt ignition.
I've never set timing on an outboard, or any engine for that matter.
I have many questions, but just a few basic, for now.
The decal on the block reads- .125 BTDC 23?
I've got TDC on #1 cylinder.
1- Is the offset rivet on top of pulley my alignment mark?
2- Does the nub on bottom of pulley have any significance?
3- What's the belt alignment mark for?
4- Is there any way to retard or advance timing other than unbolt the distributor body and rebolt?
There are no adjustment screws to retard or advance. Feel free to 'hold my hand' in responses
