Re: timing

Sorry guy, sometimes we don't reply because we don't know enought about your motor to be certain. I don't know where the screw is either, but maybe I can help you find it. On every motor I have seen, under the stator is a mechanical timing unit that turns as you give throttle. I will go all the way when you are about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. So, look under your flywheel, and you should see a lever coming out, and it will be on the side of your throttle linkages. When the lever comes out, their will be one attached going down and hooking to the same linkages that control your carbs. If you look at it long enough, you will find the place to adjust it, I am sure of it. If you don't, get back to me, and we'll find it. Don't forget to set timing while motor is in gear. You can do it with the plugs out at WOT, with the starter, but you will have to jump across the solenoid due to neutral safety switch. Always check on water under load, but have somone with you, and be careful. By the way, my wrench told me to set it a degree or two retarded because of today's fuels. This wouldn't hurt. Let me know what you come up with. Good Luck

Re: timing

Why are you sitting on the dock, clueless? The adjustment procedure does not lend itself to posting. It is in the manual. . .Johnson or Clymer. . . and is too complicated to give you a simple answer.

How did you get to a point that you feel you must adjust it or sit on the dock??

Good luck.
Red sky at night. . .
JB

Re: timing

I just went back and read your first post, clueless. You haven't done what was recommended and you haven't been ignored. I'll tell you again: It isn't likely to be timing. It is fuel starvation. Overhaul your fuel pump.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

Re: timing

JB has a good point. If you haven't messed with the linkages, or timing screws, it is proably in good time. A check with timing light couldn't hurt anything though.

Re: timing

Thanks guys sorry I havent got back to you been busy gotta work you know, before I read your replys I had allready removed carbs and are having rebuilt, ok I believe you will not mess with timing for now , it just sounded like it was missing ,I put new plugs in 3 still looked good 1 had bad carbon build up immediately, does that maen anything bad, you both agreed about fuel pump but I guess Im an IDIOT... dont know where it is much less what it looks like pleas help, also mechanic said running with carb clogged could blow up engine because oil runs through to lubricate or something true ? something else I was told fuel mixture was 50 to 1 is this correct? Thanks will check for replys daily no matter what vaction coming soon should wood like to do some fishing....... clueless

Re: timing

To find the fuel pump, take off the cowling, and follow the fuel line in and up to the carbs. It will be in the fuel line, proabably looking like a little black box. You can't miss it, it should be the only thing between where the fuel line comes in, and the carbs, except the fuel filter.

A clogged carb will burn one up, because say that you were going across the lake hammer down. If something cloggs up the main jet causing fuel starvation, and you don't stop, the rest of the cylinders will drag that one along, because it isn't providing power. On a 2 stroke, the gas and oil is together. no gas=no oil=no motor Hope it works out. good luck

Re: timing

OK, I rebuilt carbs, replaced all hoses, replaced spark plugs, took fuel pump comepletely apart cleaned and put back together, is that what you mean buy overhauling? still doing the same thing, I think the boat is afraid of water, it will run all day in the front yard, but the mimute I put it in the water and in gear and bam dead, wont even crank back up without messing with it for 10 minutes , oh if only I had a match today not really just tired of wasting my time, oh yeah today I noticed while running in front yard the bulb can be squeezed and will deflate but I have a glass inline filter and gas never really gets low, after rebuilding carbs it seemed to run better but still kind of like backfires not like bang but like pooof with thick smoke guess that all I can tell you now untill you tell me something else to try. thanks again times running out on getting it ready for vaction please help 9 year old boy driving me crazy........... clueless

Actually clueless, did you check the timing. I have had an engine do something like that, and it was the timing. Somebody before me didn't tightnen the screw, and it worked it's way out. If you need some help doing it, give me your phone #, and I will call and walk you through it. mine is 501-454-4652 if you wanna call me.
