Timing on a '69 Merc 1000

Hello again, I've almost completed my fuel system overhaul and will soon be ready for the link n sync procedure.

Now I've been reading up a lot in this awesome forum on how the timing recommendations in my original merc service manual won't do to well with today's fuel, though I haven't seen anything definitive on my particular motor. What should my timing degrees be set to?

My serial number is 2685637. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
