i can not get the timing marks to line up.
if i pull the timing adjustment all the way back it runs better but still has some spark knock. the motor was worked on by a boat shop
and they realy screwed me.they say they ran it. but i had to work on it to get gas to the carbs.

Hi cat.
Do you have a manual? My 70 requires you to check the position of the pointer. Maybe yours has been toyed with! They want you to install a dial gauge in #1 cyl. and rotate the crank until 'TDC' is reached(highest lift) Zero dial at this point. Then rotate engine CCW until dial indicator reads .464". At this point, the pointer should be calibrated to align with the .464 on the decal. Once this is done, you must follow the sync procedures.
Gotta have a manual.....
:) :)

do have the book. did what it said . the mark did not line up even close to the pointer. im thinking that when they changed the crankshaft they put one of a nother horse power in. does any one know if the cranks are the same or different?

Hi
got to be careful how you interpret the dial gauge. .464 means .464" before top dead center. Its up to you to subtract that from zero'd dial. I'm not saying you errored, I'm saying it would be easy to....

:)
