I have recently replaced both the stator and trigger units on this 1982 Mercury 50hp classic. As I am definitely an amateur in outboard repair, I didn't properly mark the flywheel location. Presently the engine starts and idles very well, but the power at top end is lacking. I'm assuming I didn't get the flywheel back in the proper location. What procedure must I follow to accomplish this? Prior to the ignition problem the engine ran very well. Serial number is 5949922.

Went through this forum. Found a post that helped me. All I had to do was to get the #1 cyl. At TDC, remove the 8 bolts holding the flywheel, and rotate the flywheel so the 0 degree mark on the flywheel lined up with the pointed marker. At that point the 8 threaded holes once again were in alignment. Install and tghten up the bolts, put the cover on, and the engine ran like it should. Thank heaven for this forum! Here is a picture of the dial indicator I modified for this purpose.
