Does anyone know what the timing should be set at for these 2 engines? Another problem that I am having is the 85 will charge the battiers slowly with what seems like a trickle charge, not a full 12 amps. When I run the engines with the lights and depth finder on for about 4 hours it will drain the battier down far enough to stop the engine. Oh yeah, the 1977 idles ruff.<br />Thanks Smack.

The ignition system is run by the flywheel magneto and is not hooked up to the battery. A problem with the stator (heat ) may be shutting down the charge coils wich run the CDI ignition.Hope this help your trouble shooting.

The timimg spec for 1977 70 hp is 17 degrees at 5000 rpms. Does the 85 engine have decal on carbuator air box?
