Timing Adjustment 20hp Johnson 1997

Can someone please advise how to adjust the timing on a 20HP 1997 johnson.

I have located the spark advance screw on the port side of the engine with the rubber stop. However, the rubber stop is not in contact with any component, therefore, adjusting this screw has no effect.

i think that the wot timing adjustment, the engine would have to be a full throttle before that comeinto effect. get you an oem manual.

Yeah, i have the manual and yes you are correct about adjusting at WOT, however, I do not have a test prop, and I have read on this forum that as long as you adjust it less 4 dregress on idle it should be correct at WOT.

Similarly, with the engine turned off at WOT the stop on the spark advance still does not contact anything.
