Time to repower, thoughts on a lease return motor?

So the Evinrude VRO 70 is finally costing me too much time off the water and too much money in the shop. I am looking at new (to me) merc 75 four stroke. Since I don't really want to pony up for a brand new motor ($10G +) I am considering a lease return. Now I don't know if this is common in other parts of the continent but up in BC there are a number of coastal fishing lodges that use a motor for one or two seasons and repower. These Lease returns usually go on the market for about half the price of a new one and have between 700 an 1000 hours on them. I understand that you should expect between 3000 and 4000 hrs on one of the newer engines so I don't expect to ever wear it out. My use is typically launch on the river and motor to the next anchor spot and set up for sturgeon or salmon. Usually an hour or two of run time for a 10 to 12 hour day. The other fishing I do is salmon trolling. Now this is the same type of use these lease returns get. So does anyone have any thoughts on repowering in this way?
