I may be getting too old for this as I realize I now have 0% patience for stupid.
Good God who was the idiot that designed the sea water system on a Volvo AQ125/270 for a TTL. of $13.00 Retail I fixed it. never mind that chunk of hydraulic hose that is Impossible to remove WHY!!! cause when rubber gets cold it gets HARD!!!!
Okay here's my fix suction pipe to 3/4" ball valve teed to a 3/4 sill **** to the sea water pump.
And here's how it works, hook the hose to the sill **** and turn the water on plenty to the motor and the rest (Back) flushes the lower unit . now for the fun part close the now suction valve add a garden hose stub and suck all the antifreeze your little heart desires in my case 1/2 gallon. I had my wife time me tonight on a flush/winterize as I salt water fish thru Nov. into Dec and the Amt. of antifreeze was out of control. total time was 17 minutes from the time I got out of the car so to speak to coffee time and 2 Qt.s of 50/50 1 qt. of $9.00 antifreeze.
Thanks for letting me vent

The hose is hard because it is on the suction side of the water pump. If it was soft it would collapse.

Your method sounds like it will work for your closed cooling system. Some may not realize your engine is fresh water cooled and already has antifreeze in the block so you are simply running antifreeze though the manifold and heat exchanger. Sounds like a good way to flush salt water as well.

I tend to agree with you...But the marine world is a alien enviroment. Until you understand the complete complexities its one ugly SOB....:D

If you introduced antifreeze to an engine, wether it has closed cooling or not, through the raw water side of thing. You have a 50/50 shot of having a cracked block in the spring.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean by that.

I have closed cooling and if I draw an AF mixture up through raw water input, I have a 100% chance of NOT having a cracked block because it's already got 50:50 AF in it!!

With a raw water cooled engine, drawing an AF mix up through the raw water input may not (and probably WILL NOT) mix enough AF in the block to prevent a cracked block if the temp goes well below zero.

This is because the thermostat doesn't open all the way and allow ALL the raw water already in the block to be replaced completely by the "raw water mix" coming in through the raw water pick-up.

Unless you let it run for a long time the AF:water mix in the block won't be the same concentration mix it's sucking in........

Winterizing a raw water engine by drawing AF/water up through the raw water pickup is NOT RECOMMENDED by anyone..... UNLESS you completely drain the block FIRST!! (and then, why do you need to suck af/H2O in the first place?........AIR DOESN'T FREEZE!..........At least not on this planet.......

FWIW you can not Patent something that has been presented to the public. As in described in detail in a public forum.

some people also put antifreeze in to keep the coolant passages in the block from rusting and scaling.

That could be worthwhile I suppose..... I had an engine that went 39 years and and did not get filled with AF ....It was just getting worn out.

It doesn't appear filling it with AF every year would have helped much......

Good point but my original post was for the 270/AQ125A guys Apples to Apples so to speak and yes it is FWC as I'm lead to believe they all were.as there is no pump to inhibit back drain this works, Also I am in no way saying this is a end all fix all. Now! as far as suction Vs. Discharge try going by the F.S.M. " Simply remove the hose at the transom attach a 7/8" OD hose to it with the other end in a bucket of 50/50 until you get green out of the exhaust". Yeah! try to remove that hose in Nov. NOT!!! I defy you to without removing the 90 deg. Bend at the gimbal. with this said this may work for other types than stated but Don't!!!!! hold me to it.
